This subproject (AROMA3D- HYBRID) in collaboration with the other two subprojects (AROMA3D-EARTH and AROMA3D-SPACE) aims at developing a sustainable and reliable 3-dimensional (3D) wireless network. AROMA3D-HYBRID is focusing on enhancing the hybrid terrestrial and non-terrestrial systems.

 

The main technical objectives of AROMA3D-HYBRID are:

  • Objective 1: Define the main building blocks of the overall 3D network, identify a set of use cases, system requirements, and key technological enablers. It includes the analysis of several use cases to extract the different 6G requirements in addition to the identification of the key technical enablers to ensure a cost-effective, ubiquitous, reliable, secure, and scalable.

  • Objective 2: Design of antenna solutions and resource management techniques suited for the hybrid systems in the 3D network. Explore the technological convergence between the terrestrial and satellite segments from terminal antenna point of view and exploit the reuse of design principles and components and investigate a cost-effective antenna solution. Additionally, develop intelligent radio resource management strategies to handle the traffic distribution between the terrestrial and the non-terrestrial links adopting AI based schemes to deal with the expected high number optimization parameters.

  • Objective 3: Explore multi-access Edge computing and develop innovative approaches based on artificial intelligence for operation and optimization at all system levels. Develop multi-access edge computing techniques to reduce content retrieval latency of the network and efficiently perform the computation offloading when needed. Additionally, consider the cooperation and interplay between the different terrestrial and non-terrestrial network components to enable an efficient computation handover and develop AI-based solution to tackle the huge complexity of the system and provide the 3D network with the necessary intelligence, with adaptive and flexible optimization tools, and with predictive configurability.

  • Objective 4: Evaluate and validate the solutions by means of Proof-of-Concepts. AROMA3D-Hybrid will perform several experimental validations and demonstrations of selected techniques developed in the project.
